Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Vai Pea

Vai Pea is a 17 years old student in 10th grade at The ASIJ School which is located in Chup Krom village, Svay Leu commune, Svay Leu district, and Siem Reap province.

Pea has gotten four members in her family, her parents, one younger brother and including herself. She is the first child in the family. Her parents are farmers. Her family have gotten only small plot of land for building her house and for raising chicken. Pea addressed that her parents has yearly hired farmland of neighbors to transplant the rice and after harvesting rice her parents have paid two sacks of rice’s output to the farmland’s owner for the fee of hiring farmland in per year.

Pea said that besides the rice transplantation and daily needs so her parents have had to seek other works at other farms of the neighbors and they have gotten $10 per day. However, the amount of that revenue was inadequate to buy food, clothes and school supplies for Pea’s schooling.

Regarding Pea said that she hasn’t attended the school regularly because her parents needed her to help work at the rice field and do house work sometimes.
