The Cambodia Rural School Project

The Brian Murphy School

Mong Phirun is a second grade student at the Brian Murphy School.
Out of the forty-eight students in his class, he was ranked first.

On himself:

I am twelve years old. My parents both farm corn. I have seven brothers and sisters, and I am the second youngest. I live about half an hour away from school, on foot.

On the new building:

I am very happy with the new school building. It is easy to study in. I used to also studied in a concrete building, but I moved to this one when it was finished, because it is much closer to my house. The other school was far away, and it wasn’t as new as this one.

Favorite subject:

Khmer language, because I live in Cambodia.

In his spare time:

After school I do my homework. I also help my parents look after my younger brother. When it is necessary, I help my parents with the harvest. I usually have some time left to play; then I like to play soccer and jump rope at home with my relatives.

In the future:

I want to be a teacher and educate students. If I could do anything, I would like to be a customs official.
