In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building “I like the new building because it makes me happy.  I like to go to school because I am happy when I am at school.”

On her family “I have two brothers.  My younger brother, Rak Smey Phirum, is 8 and is in second grade in the same school building as me.  My youngest brother, Rak Smey Daro, is five years old.  He is in first grade at the new school with me.  My mother’s name is Kem Heung.  She is 33 and is a seamstress.  She can earn US$5 or 6 a day in profit.  My father, Yan Rak Smey, is in the army.  His salary is 60,000 riel (US$15) per month.”

On getting to school “My house is about one kilometer from school, and I ride a bicycle to get there.”

On school subjects “I like to learn mathematics, because my mother told me that mathematics is better than other subjects, but she also told me to learn other subjects well.  She also said that if I get tired of studying I will not become a good student.”

On her hobbies “Besides studying, I like to tell jokes with my friends.”

On her future “I want to be a doctor in the future because my mother told me that when she is sick I can cure her.”
