Foundation School

Lanh Em is a 16-year-old fourth grade student at the Phnom Touch Nippon Foundation School.
She was ranked eighteenth in her class of 43 students

On herself:

I have a brother and a sister. My younger brother is studying here with me, while my older sister stays at home. My parents are both farmers. Our house is about 150 meters away from here.

On the new building:

I’m very pleased because I’ve got new and more friends here. The old school was far away from here as well–eight kilometers. On a bike, the trip to school took about half an hour. The old building had a tiled roof. I only had a few friends there. Nobody liked the old building, so few came to study there.

Favorite subject:

Math, because it’s easy to do multiplications, additions, and subtractions.

If she could wish for anything:

I would wish for more school equipment for the students here, like rulers, pencils, pens, notebooks, and chalk.

In the future:

I want to be a farmer because I want to do what my parents are doing.

On her summer vacation:

I will bring water and cook rice. I’ll also be watering the vegetables and finding food for our pigs.

If she could travel anywhere

I’d go to Pailin; I’ve never been there. I want to see it once. I would visit the hanging bridge there. My cousin used to live there and she’d told be about it.
