Foundation School

(December, 2001)

Mr. Seung Pros is a 13-year-old first grade student at the Santhipeap Nippon Foundation School.  Also attending the school are his elder sister, younger brother and younger sister.  His father is a taxi driver and his mother is a farmer.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building:  “I like the new building because it is new and closer to my house.  I used to go to a different primary school that was five kilometers away from my house.  I used to spend an hour getting to school in the morning, but now I only spend ten minutes.”

On school subjects: “I like mathematics and social science best because it is easy to do the calculations in mathematics and easy to answer the questions in social science.  I don’t like applied science because it is hard.”

On his free time: “At home I like to read books and sometimes I come to school to play volleyball.”

On his future: “I have plans to graduate from high school because I think that high school graduates are highly educated.  My parents also want me to graduate because they want me to get a good job.  I want to be a taxi driver like my father because it is an easy way to earn money.”
