Foundation School

King Chuan is a fourth grade student at the Sralao Tong Nippon Foundation School.
Out of the thirty-five members of his class, he was ranked first.

On himself: I am fifteen years old. My parents are farmers. I have seven siblings. My younger sister and I both study at the new school. Our house is about 400 meters away from school. The walk takes about ten minutes.

On the new building: I am excited to have a new building to study in. In the old school, it was dark and there weren’t enough seats for us to sit.

On his studies: I am good in mathematics. It is easy to get it when the teacher is teaching. I always get full marks on the tests. For Khmer literature, I think it is the most difficult among the subjects in the school. You have to know many words, like noun, adjective and verb. I make many mistakes whenever we have dictation, because I have no textbook to read at home.

On his future: “After primary school, I want to continue my studies at the secondary school in the district town, and then graduate from the teacher school to become a teacher. I think that my parents could support the expenses of my study. Even though the teacher gets a low salary, I still want to be a teacher because I want to teach children. It is my intention.”
