The Ta Krey Nippon

Foundation School

Meng Sokunthea is a sixth grade student at the Ta Krey Nippon Foundation School. She is also sixteen years old. She was ranked fifth among her 32 classmates in the first semester of this year. She has two sisters and one brother. Her parents are both farmers. Her house is about 1.5 km away from the school. She rides a bicycle to school every day

On her studies:

“I am good at mathematics and I got 10/10 mark on my first semester examination. I like to study mathematics because I know how to do the exercises. It is easy for me to calculate and figure out answers. I can usually understand 80% of the lesson, but after one or two exercises I can understand the lesson completely.”

“Before going to bed, I read my book to review the lesson and the next morning before going to school, I read it again. That’s my habits. If there is an exam, I wake up at 5 o’clock in the morning and read the lesson for about one hour before going to the school for the exam.”

On the new building:

“The new building has no cracks which let in the rain. At the old building there was no wall to keep out the rain, and made the students wet. Now I am happy with the new building because it is bigger and more beautiful.”

On the future:

“When I grow up I want to be a teacher and transmit my knowledge to the children, even though I know that the salary for teachers at public schools is low.”
