Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chhay Sothea

Sothea is 17 years old, and she is in grade 8th at The ASIJ School in Chup Krom village, Svay Leu commune, Svay Leu district, Siem Reap province.

Sothea is the first child in the family, with younger sisters. Her father name is Yeung Sara, 33 years old and her mother is Mann Chai, 36 years old and they are farmers.

Her family is poor and owned half hectare of farmland for growing rice. The rice can produce 10 bags of rice in per year. After the rice’s yield collection her parents had sold out for 5 bags and got $94 to pay back to shop owner for the fertilizers and some money pay for the food but it’s not enough for daily expenses for a year. Therefore, besides the rice’s transplantation her father has had to seek another job to work as a motor-taxi driver and he can gets for $5 in per day. In order to patch up on food but it was not regular income.

She is study very hard and is a good student in class. After school, she goes home to help her parents to do house work. In her free time, she likes to read the books and review the lessons from school.

She wants to be a Teacher when she grows up. She wants to help all the kids in her village and also she wants to earn the money to support her family.
