Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Ron Malis

Ron Malis is a 12 year-old student who entered the Girls Be Ambitious program in 2014. At the time, she enrolled in the third grade at The Lotus School in Prek Dambouk Village, Kampong Chamlorng Commune, Khsach Kandal District, Kandal Province. She is now in the sixth grade.

She is the first daughter in the family. Her mother and her father got a divorced three years ago. Her mother married a new husband and then never cared for her or her brother. Her father is a teacher but he has retired for four years. He lives on his pension about $ 87 per month. This income is not enough to support the hold family .Thus, her father have to borrow money from their neighbors to buy rice and other food to feed the family. Sometimes Malis helps her father to do house work and looks after her brother when her father is away.

She maintains high attendance and has many friends who are among her classmates.
