Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Kalyan is 12 years old and she is a student in grade 7 at The Green Family School in Takeo province, Kirivong district, Angbrasat commune, Angbrasat village.

There are five members of her family. She has got two parents, one brother, and two sisters includable her. Kalyan is the second child in her family. Her family is poor, they are farmers and they have a half-hectare, which can produce 800 to 900 kg of rice per year. However this is only the ideal output because they need to barter for fertilizer and other expenditures during the farming process, but the family still lives in poverty. Her parents don’t have enough money to support school supplies for her. She always rides an old bicycle to school and comes back. Therefore, she needs to help her mother with housework and takes care of her youngest brother every day and days off.

Kalyan wants to be a teacher when she grows up because she loves this job so much. Furthermore, she would love to teach all the students in rural villages to have higher knowledge and she would like to support her family to live in a better life.
