Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Sira Dalen is 14 years old, a student in 6th grade at the Dak Dam’s School in Dak Dam commune, Orang district, Mondulkiri Province.

There are 5 members in her family. She has two brothers. Her family is living in a rent house in the village as their house in the farm is about 6 km away from the village and school. Her family is in debt at the bank and living in poverty. Today her mother work as a seller at home and raise some chickens and her father is working as a construction worker and seasonal labor worker sometimes. Out of school time, Dalen and her brothers also do seasonal work to get 10,000 riels a day (2.50$) to support their family’s needs. Her family has very small farmland which they can plant cassava and earned about 250$ after harvest in a year. Her mother said sometimes they don’t have enough rice to eat because of debt so they have to borrow some rice from neighbor.

After school Dalen doesn’t have much free time as other children in the village, she has to help her mother to do housework, grow vegetable for food and take care of the chickens.

In the future, she wants to be an English teacher because she wants to help and teach the children in her village to know and use English in order to get good life.
