Soung Chhay is a 15-year-old fifth grade student at the Tasda Nippon Foundation School.
He was ranked second out of the 45 students in his class

On himself:

I have one older sister and a younger brother, who is14 years old. He’s still studying at the old school. When the new school was built my mother didn’t allow him to come here to study because he has a chronic stomach disease and needs to stay close to home. This school is four kilometers away from our house and I get to school on my own motorcycle. My mother is a farmer and my father is a policeman but he also helps out in the field.

On the new building:

I know that I’ll be very happy at the new school because it is a very pretty school, it has a latrine and a pump well, and everything is very good. At the old school, whenever I needed to go to the toilet, I had to go home.

On his summer vacation:

I’ll help my mother with the corn harvest. It’ll take about half a month. After that, I’ll relax.

If he could make any wish:

I would want a lot of money. I would use the money to open a business.

If he could travel anywhere:

I want to go to Sihanoukville because I want to see the beach.
