Foundation School

Chhem Sophall is a 15 years old third grade student at the Svay Bopharam Nippon Foundation School.
She was ranked second in her class of 46 students

On herself:

I have a brother and three sisters. I’m the youngest in my family. My parents are both farmers, and our house is 200 meters from this school.

On the new building:

I’m happy. I’m glad I can go to this new school. It’s fun to study here. I used to go to school at the pagoda. It had a tiled roof, but there were many holes in it. The rain would always drip into the classroom. There weren’t enough desks, so we had to sit on the ground.

Favorite subject:

I like Khmer most. It’s easy top remember the Khmer alphabet, and I like studying about Khmer culture.

On her summer vacation:

I will harvest rice with my parents. The harvest takes almost a full day, and we have a small rice paddy. I also look after our cow, and take it to the barn, together with our three ducks.

In the future:

I want to be a corn farmer, because I can make money that way.

If she could make any wish:

I’d wish for a big and good house.

If she could travel anywhere

I’d travel to Phnom Penh. I want to visit my relatives. They work for a garment factory there.
