The Aeon Delonix School

(August, 2001)

Mr Choung Bech is a teacher at the Aeon Delonix School.  He has been teaching first grade for five years.  He is married and has an infant son.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “This new building is absolutely different from the old one.  The students didn’t like to go to school because the roof leaked when it rained and it was in bad condition.  The new building is safe and in good condition, so the students always come to school, unlike before.  Now the parents don’t worry about their children studying at school, and so more children can get education.”

On teaching: “Teaching without many teaching materials or equipment is difficult, but I like to help the kids in this village.”

On school subjects: “The students like Khmer because the books that they read are about young kids their age and history.  They can relate to the material.  The students find mathematics and applied science difficult because they have trouble using numbers and there aren’t any pictures to help them understand.”
