The Chroy Banteay Nippon

Foundation School

(October, 2001)

Mr. Seng Kaing is the director of the Chroy Banteay Nippon Foundation School.  He has been a director for three years and became a teacher in 1979, after training with the Ministry of Education.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building:  “I like the new school building because although I have been teaching for a long time, I have never taught in a nice building like this.  It has made me want to try very hard to teach well, and the students now want to study hard as well.”

On teaching: “I love being a teacher because this has been my aim since I was young.”

On school subjects: “I like teaching Khmer and mathematics because I think that these are basics that everyone must know.  I don’t like teaching social science because, while I try hard to teach it, the students do not learn it well.  The students like Khmer because they want to know how to read and write.  That way, if someone sends them a letter or they see a magazine, they can read it.  They don’t like applied science because they find it hard to understand.”
