Ms Soun Chanthy is a 22-year-old teacher at the Gloria and Henry Jarecki Special Skills School. She has just graduated from the pedagogical school this year and is assigned to work at the Gloria and Henry Jarecki Special Skills School at the first of her carrier. She lives permanently in Ban Lung, the provincial town of Ratanakiri, with her aunt and she rides her own motor bike to the school every day to teach the children in the village.
“I love the job of teacher because I like to educate the children, to build their knowledge.”
“I think that the students at the Gloria and Henry Jarecki Special Skills School are eager to learn Khmer literacy, but language is the barrier of their study because the children are Kreung minorities, one of the eight main tribal ethnic minorities in the province. They neither speaks Khmer fluently nor understands Khmer clearly that is why I spend more times to explain more detailed meaning of each Khmer word in order to make the students understand the vocabulary.”
