The Kazuko Nishie School
Chaun Soph On, director of The Kazuko Nishie School (Feb. 2000)
Chaun Soph On is the director of The Kazuko Nishie School. He is 50 years old. Like all men of his age in Cambodia, Chaun Soph On has witnessed the horrors of war in his homeland.
He lost his left foot in 1974 while fighting for the Lon Nol regime.
He stepped on a landmine in the western area of Phnom Penh. (Even today, landmines pose a serious threat to the Cambodian people).
“I enjoy being school director, but I really love to teach. Unfortunately, I do not teach much anymore because I am too busy.”
on the responsibility of the school staff | “When the school is finished, all of the teachers and I will protect the building and its materials. We will do our best to please the donor in bringing knowledge to all of the students.”
|
on the future of the students | “Some will get jobs: they will work as a farmer, or maybe become a government employee. If a girl is pretty, she will be married and have a family!” (laughing)
|
message to Kazuko Nishie | “I would like to thank the Mrs. Nishie very much for her kindness, and I wish her much greatness and happiness.” |
