Nippon Foundation School

Ban Phanna is a sixth grade student at the Kompong Chamlong Nippon Foundation School.
She was ranked second in her class.

On herself: I am thirteen years old. My parents are both farmers. I have three sisters and one brother. They all study at the new school as well. My house is about one kilometer away from the school and I walk to school every day.

On the new building: The old wooden school building was uncomfortable to learn in, because there was no door to keep out the garbage. It was a dirty place. Now I have a new building with a higher foundation to keep out water when it is raining. I no longer worry about the rain.

On her studies: I am good in three subjects: social studies, Khmer literature and mathematics. Among the three I like mathematics the most because I think that arithmetic and calculation are constantly needed for our daily activities, especially in small businesses. I am weak in science because I am not interested in it. I focus only on social studies, Khmer literature, and mathematics.

Hobbies: I like playing badminton and volleyball

On her future: I want to be a teacher when I grow up. I think that teaching is a service to society, by educating people to give up their bad habits and become good citizens. However, I am worried that when I graduate primary school at the end of this year, I cannot go on to secondary school, because I have no relatives to stay with while I study there. The secondary school is twenty kilometers away from my house.
