In Their Own Words. . .

Men Nourn is an 11-year-old second grade student at the school.  She was ranked fifth among the 30 students in her class.  Her father has been separated from her mother for a long time and lives in Phnom Penh.  Her mother is a farmer.  She has four older brothers and sisters, and they all graduated from the same primary school.

On the new building: “I like the new building because I will learn a lot and become clever.  The old building had no room and no tables; we were studying in the monk’s house.  It is much easier to sit down, to read, and to write in this building.”

On her future: “I plan to graduate primary school, and then I want to go to Phnom Penh to work in a garment factory.  I don’t want to do anything else, because I only want to get an education.  I also want to be a teacher, so that I can teach the students.”

Message for Osamu and Noriko Sugita: “I would like to thank Osamu and Noriko Sugita for making this building possible.”
