The Taing Krasao Nippon

Foundation School

Hem Chan Vannak is an 11-year-old fourth grade student at the Taing Krasao Nippon Foundation School.
Out of the 43 students in his class, he was ranked third.

On himself:

My father is a nurse, and my mother is a farmer. I have five siblings, but none of them are studying at this school.

On the new building:

I like the new building. I want to go there to learn. It’s a good place to study, whereas the old school was not. When I was studying there, I was always afraid that tiles might fall from the roof and hit us. Sometimes old wood would fall down as well. It was also very noisy, because the students would talk a lot.

Favorite subject:

My favorite subject is Khmer.

On his spare time:

I feed our cows. I bring the cow to the field so that they can eat the grass there. I have to sit and watch in case they should eat the rice as well. Apart from that I also carry water and cut firewood.

In the future:

I want to be a teacher.

If he could travel anywhere:

I want to go to Siem Reap, because there I can watch television.
