Khem Bunareth is a 12-year-old fourth grade student at the Tokunori Morisaki School No. One.  He is ranked fourth out of the 51 students in his class.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I am happy with the new building because it is clean and cool.  I like to come to school because I like to learn.”

On school subjects: “I like to learn Khmer because I want to know how to read and write.  I don’t like social science because it is boring and difficult.”

On his hobbies: “When I have free time, I like to read and talk with my friends.”

On his family: “My father passed away in 1998, but I don’t know why.  My mother sells cakes by the school.  Sometimes she can earn US$3 or $4 in profit in a day.  I have one brother who is also at school with me.”

On his future: “I want to be a teacher when I grow up because I want to teach the next generations.”
