Khay Mean is 13 years old and is in the fourth grade at The Wolrd Mate School Number Five.
on his family | I have two brothers and two sisters. My older brother Hong is 19 years old and he left the village to go work in Sihanoukville. My older sister Loin is 17 years old. She stopped studying at school because my mother needed help working in the fields. My other brother Ngorn is 14 years old and is in the fifth grade at another school. My younger sister is 8 years old and is in the first grade here with me at the new school.”

on his parents | My father’s name is Houn. He grows and sells fruit. My mother is Tien and she is a farmer. They are both 35 years old.”

on the new school | “I am happy with the new school building because it is very large. My old school building was very small and narrow, and it was difficult to learn in. I like to come to school now because the school is nice.”

on school subject | I like to study Khmer because it is easy for me to lean. I do not like to study Social Studies because it is difficult to read and understand.”

on his future | “When I grow up I want to be a teacher because this school does not have many teachers.” |
