Number Three

October, 2001

Mr. Neou sithach is the director of the World Mate School No. Three.
She has been a director for five years and a teacher for six.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “ I like this building because we have never had a concrete building in this village.  It is easier to study in, and the temperature inside is much lower. The students and their parents like it very much as well. Before, we taught the kids in the town pagoda and monks’ house. We didn’t have enough tables for all of the students to sit.”

On the joys of the job: “ I like communicating with the parents of he kids and the authorities in this village to get more kids to study at the school. I don’t want these kids to be uneducated. I don’t like ignorance.”

On school subjects:  “ I like teaching Khmer best, and I think that the kids like Khmer mathematic best. The like learning how to read and write, and do math. These subjects are also very useful for them, and the best way to improve their living conditions. They don’t like the other subjects as much.”

On keeping the students interested in school: “ I try to tell jokes and stories in class, but to still push the children hard, so that they an learn.”

On the school community: “ The school community like the new building. People have said how lucky this village is to have a building like this. I t is also a good change for the kids here.”

On the effect the building: “ I think that the new school building is the best thing for the village, especially for the kids, because it is the best way to give the children a good education.”

Message for the donor: “ I would like to thank  Toshu Fukami for building the new building and for having the high ideals to enable the children in this village to learn.”
