Klaing Vanny is 14 years old, and she studies in 6th grade at The Chres School in Phum Chres Village, Boeng Sala khang Tbong Commune, Kampong Trach District, Kampot Province.
Vanny is the second child in the family, with 1 younger sister and 1 older brother. Her father name is Heng Phon, 34 years old. He is a fisherman at Kampong Sam and he could earn around $80 per month. Her mother is Noy Trean, 33 years old. She is a seller of a little vegetables at Kampong Sam with her husband and could get around 50$ per month.
Her family is poor and owned a small field of farmland for growing rice, but her parents didn’t make rice field every year, because they’ve worked far away from home and they have kept their farmland to aunt at homeland and their children too. Her aunt could make growing rice produce about 9 bags of rice in per year (1 bag of rice is equal 55kgs to 65kgs) and her aunt needs to share the rice to her parents about 4 bags in per year. Her parents always sent money to Vanny and other children one month about 25$ and her aunt is a keeper of Vanny is also poor. Moreover, she needs money to support her more for Vanny’s study to success in the future. After the rice’s yield collection her aunt sold out for 2 bags and got $35 to paid back to shop owner for the cost of fertilizers and the remaining money is paid for the food but it was not enough for daily expenses in a whole year. Therefore, besides the growing rice her aunt worked as a farmers for the villagers around the villages to get some wage around $5.00 per day for a person during the rice season for family to support a whole members and the income that she could get in per day was $5 in order to patch up on food. However that $5 was not the regular income for their daily food.
As for Vanny, she studied very hard and she is a good student in the class. After school, she helps her aunt to do housework. In her free time, she likes to read the books, review the lessons from school and completed the exercises from the teacher.
For Vanny’s future goal: Vanny wants to be a Teacher of English when she grows up, because she wants to help all the kids in her village and all the people in the world to progress this language well and also she wants to earn money to support her family.
