Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Sim Lina is a 14 year-old student in the 8th grade at The Savant School, which is located in Taney village, Choam Sangker commune, Phnom Sruoch district, and Kampong Speu province.

Lina has two brothers, two sisters and she is the first child in the family. Her father’s name is Mr. Se Noeurn, who is 43-years old, and her mother’s name is Mrs. Ling Phally, who is 33-years old.  Lina’s father is a construction worker, earning a small amount of money, and her mother works in a garment factory in Phnom Penh, earning $200-250 a month.

However, these incomes are still not enough to financially support the family’s needs, such as food, clothes and school supplies for Lina and her siblings.  Therefore, Lina sometimes misses school to work as a mango picker, earning a small amount of money to support her studies.

Lina expressed her future goal as: “I want to become a nurse of general diseases because it is my favorite subject that needs me to treat and cure my family as well as Cambodian people as well.”
