The Uncle Mark Lutz School

September, 2001

Mr. Chea Chek, director of the Uncle Mark Lutz School.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I really like the new school building because it’s nice and the children like to come to school.  The building also encourages people to send their children to school here.”

On teaching: “I have been a school director for 12 years.  I became a teacher because there was a lack of people who had received higher education and so the community chose me to teach their children.  My job is one everyone respects and I love working with children.”

On school subjects: “I like teaching mathematics and Khmer because these subjects are not difficult for me.  I don’t like teaching applied science because we are short of instruments and it is more difficult for the children to understand.”

On the community: “The school community is very happy and they support it by filling in the land around the school compound.  They also help decorate the building and develop sporting grounds for the children.”

Message for the donor: “In the name of the community I would like to thank Mr. Mark Lutz for donating a very nice new building for us that we are all trying to keep in good condition.  I would like to wish him good luck and great success.”
