Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Kheck Sreynith is 13 years old, and in the 7th grade at the Rak Smey Rik Reay junior high school in Bos Village, Rik Reay Commune, Rovieng District, Preah Vihear Province.

There are 4 members in her family, two parents, a younger brother, and Sreynith.  She is the first child in her family. The family lives on their grandmother’s land and does not own land for growing rice. However, the parents have been working on her neighbor’s land for several years, but their yearly harvest cannot cover their needs. So they have to buy additional rice. Sreynith’s family is extremely poor. Occasionally, her parents work on neighbors’ cashew farms earning 30,000 to 40,000 Riel per day, but it is not regular work.

Sreynith rides the bike to school every day, and always help her mother with housework. Additionally, when she has free time she works on neighbor’s farms collecting cashew nuts and chopping cassava.

In the future she wants to be a teacher because she loves this job, she likes teaching and she wants to share her knowledge to the kids. Moreover, she wants to earn money to support her family and give them an opportunity to live a better life.
