Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Kong Suphea is 12 years old, a student in 6th grade at The Janie’s school #524 in Snam Preah Village, Snam Preah Commune, Bakan District, Pursat Province.

She has two siblings: two boys, both of them are students and she is the third child in the family. Her father is a Khmer traditional instrument musician. And her mother is snack food seller. Her family had a small farmland that doesn’t provide enough rice to feed the whole family. So her mother decided to do a job as Khmer snack food (fried banana, soymilk and others) seller to the garment factory workers and people around the village to get extra income about 50,000-60,000 riels a day for their daily food and sending her three children to school.

Suphea is very different from others kids in the village, because she is a hard working girl and also a hard studying girl. And everyday she has to get up very early in the morning at 3 o’clock with her two brothers to help her mother in making the many kinds of Khmer snack and soymilk. And in her spare time from school, she also helped her mother in selling the snacks too. At home, she must do all kinds of housework and feed some chickens for food and selling.

In the future, she wants to be a teacher of Khmer literature because she is really good at it compared to other subjects that she studied at school. And it is her most favorite subject too. And if her dream comes true, she will try to be a good and professional teacher to teach the students at school and the children around her village.
