The Chey Mongkul Nippon

Foundation School

Karim Lina is a third grade student at the Chey Mongkul Nippon Foundation School.
Among the forty students in her class, she was ranked second.

On herself: I’m thirteen years old. I have one younger brother and one younger sister. My brother is a second grade student. Our father passed away, and my mother works for a garment factory in Malaysia. While she’s away, my great aunt takes care of us. She’s a fishmonger. Her house is only ten minutes away from school.

On the new building: The new building has new desks, a new blackboard, and a new teacher’s desk. It also has more windows, which makes the classroom much cooler during the day. In the old building there was not enough fresh air, and it would get too hot. Every time it rained or there was a flood, classes would be interrupted.

Favorite subject: My favorite subjects are Khmer, social studies, and science. My most favorite is social studies, because we learn about Cambodian history.

After graduation: After primary school I would like to continue studying at secondary school, and eventually become a teacher.

If she could do anything: I like making clothes. Maybe I would work in a garment factory.

On her spare time: After school, I help my great aunt boil rice and make soup. Then I try and do my homework.
