Foundation School

(November, 2001)

Mr. Chuon Din is the director of the Damrei Phong Nippon Foundation School.  He has been a school director for 5 years and a teacher for 5 years before that.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I like the new building because it is a good and solid concrete building.  We worried that the old building would collapse because it was leaning to one side.”

On teaching: “The best thing about my job is teaching.  I love teaching poor people like those in this village because I want them to get as much education as those in the towns.”

On the problems in Cambodia: “The poverty, ignorance and fighting in this country are what is wrong with our society.  There has been fighting for 20 years and so people in the remote areas haven’t been able to go to school.  The poverty, ignorance and illiteracy that are problems now were all caused by the fighting.”
