The Harris Family School

October, 2001

Mr. Ngen Yok is the director of the Harris Family School.  He has been a director for two years, and he was a teacher for two years prior to heading the school.

In Their Own Words. . .

On the new building: “I like the new school building because it is nice and we have many pupils now. We used to have class under the home of a villager because we had no classroom.  I think this new building is a good thing for the village because the students that go to this school will have the knowledge to develop the village.”

On teaching: “I became a teacher because I have wanted to be one since I was young.”

On school subjects: “I like mathematics because I want the pupils to know how to calculate well.  I don’t like teaching applied science because it is difficult to teach.  The students know that Khmer is important, and they like mathematics as well.”

On the joys of his job:  “My favorite thing is the happy feeling I get when I teach my students and they understand what I have explained.  I like my job very much.”

On the school community: “The school community and parents of the students are very happy because they have a very nice school building for their children and they take good care of the new school building.”
