The Nicholas Palevsky School

Nget Noy is a first grade student at the Nicholas Palevsky School. He has four brothers and one sister. One of his brothers has also come to study at the new school. He is ethnic Laotian. His parents are farmers.

On his study:

“I just started studying at this school this year. I have started learning the Khmer consonants and I can count only from one to ten. I still cannot read or write. My teacher writes Khmer sentences, but he explains in Lao because my classmates cannot understand Khmer language for we are Laotians. In the village we speak Lao.”

On the new building:

“I am very happy to study in the new building because it is beautiful and strong.”

“Apart from going to school, I have to look after our buffaloes and cows and help my parents with their farming.”
